in order to make table-tipping work does the location has to be active (haunted)? does a medium have to be present in order to get things moving? and whats the minimum number of people you can have to get this to work?

I am sceptical of table tipping. I have never taken part in it so maybe if I did I would change my mind, but at the moment I feel it is more to do with people sub-conciously moving the table than a spirit trying to communicate. The fact that you have to make physical contact with the table makes it very hard to prove it is legit.
Why don't they just have a single medium place one finger on the center of the table and see if it still starts tipping, that way we can be more or less sure that if it does move, it isn't the person touching it doing the actual moving.
Although I must say that the table tipping that was on most haunted live was impressive. The way the table moved around the whole room combined with the fact that the tablecloth made it impossible to move the table unless someone had their thumbs on the side of it made it a bit differant from normal table tipping where the table just rocks.

As for your questions, I'm not too sure about the exact setup or conditions necessary for it to work. However I would say that if table tipping is caused by spirits, than it would probably be best to be in an "active" location. I would also say it is certainly beneficial to have a medium take part, but as to whether it is essential to it working, I'm not too sure.
