Just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on this:

When the Church asks publicly and authoritatively in the name of Jesus Christ that a person or object be protected against the power of the Evil One and withdrawn from his dominion, it is called exorcism. Jesus performed exorcisms and from him the Church has received the power and office of exorcizing.178 In a simple form, exorcism is performed at the celebration of Baptism. The solemn exorcism, called "a major exorcism," can be performed only by a priest and with the permission of the bishop. The priest must proceed with prudence, strictly observing the rules established by the Church. Exorcism is directed at the expulsion of demons or to the liberation from demonic possession through the spiritual authority which Jesus entrusted to his Church. Illness, especially psychological illness, is a very different matter; treating this is the concern of medical science. Therefore, before an exorcism is performed, it is important to ascertain that one is dealing with the presence of the Evil One, and not an illness.

The Anglican rite is called deliverance but amounts to the same thing...

I'd be reasonably open minded about the issue of "possession", although I think it's extremely rare. On the other hand, we are all a lot more receptive to "influence" than a lot of us realise - that's why we feel "atmosphere" when we walk into rooms.

If you have the time, it's interesting listening to Robert Bruce on the issue of astral entities which includes demonic experiences. He started off as a healer, and has spent some time developing techniques for astral projection.

First 5 are relevant, 60 minutes total

It's worth listening all the way through, but at approx 6:30 through part 5 RB's opinion on possession vs illness

If you're looking for stories on Demonic possession in Ireland, this book'll keep you away from ouija boards:-

I wonder has anyone read The Demonologist? Some interesting stories, and photographic plates too.

I've read that in order for the exorcism to work you really need to believe so if thats the case it could just be in the mind and if the mind thinks it's getting rid of the demon it is. All the stories I've ever read the people are believers so It's a touchy subject...

It's the kinda subject I'm two minds about..

Maybe I'm possessed, lol.

Off to the Church,

O also some stories I've read the priest wasn't given permission but yet still performed the exorcism with 100% results
