I spent New Years Eve in the bush in our snow country, Koscuiosko National Park which is south west of NSW near the bottom. I have done this before and it has been just great.
We camped out and rode about 165 kms. I saw Brumbies for the first time (Aust wild horses) and we had some very interesting things happen along the way. We had a young horse with us that no one was riding and he was back at camp one day and he broke loose and went bush. If he met up with brumbies he would have been killed by the stallion but the next day as we made out way home he found us in the bush. Later on the trip home he went down this big hole where the track had given way. His 4 feet were in the hole and he coudnt get out. The hole was about 6' deep. We had to get him by the tail and work him out of the hole lol.
On the first day a pack slipped on the pack horse and all the gear went underneath him. He went berserk bucking and carrying on.The horse headed straight for me and then sent my horse into a frenzy. I stayed on but it was a harrowing few minutes.
I also woke one morning with a scorpion on my sleeping bag and I saw a trout in the wild for the first time. Thinking I might like to go up there and do some trout fishing now..........
We had this terrific storm one night and the clouds looked so weird. Everything is different up in the mountains.
If you ever visit Australia you got to do this. Its worth the money. Mind you , you do rough it a bit but you see a part of australia at its best and it just makes you want to keep going back.
Here some pics if you are interested.
This was the highest we went. The highest peak in the distance is Mt Kosciuosko, Australias highest peak and this area is covered in snow in winter.

This is me trying to sneak up on the Brumbies. There was a foal in the mob but we didnt any closer than this because they took flight and disappeared

This could be somewhere in Ireland or Scotland maybe? I saw my first trout in one of these streams but it bolted under the bank.

This is "Matches". He is the horse that got lost and went down the hole so it was very typical of him to join us in a swim. He got his name because he once pulled some matches out of someones pocket.

Outside one of the old mountain huts that is now preserved for visitors. I cant remember the name of the hut or who it belonged to, but he perished in it and his ghost is supposed to be around there. I would have liked to have stayed the night in there.

Well I am all relaxed now but have to go back to work this afternoon so that is not fun. I am wishing myself back up there again.
